Family Beach Trip 2010

July 25th arrived early.  We have our trailer, it is packed and loaded with all our worldly possessions, and we are ready to head out onto I-95 to head down to the outer-banks.  Lynn and Robin have joined us and we will meet up with Jared, Heather, Hannah and Sophie at the beach.  They are leaving a day early to go to Ben and Betsy's in Richmond to pick up Katie.  Jonathan, Nicole, Michael and Jax will come down later today.  For those who get there early we will meet at Captain Frank's for our traditional welcome to the beach banquet of hot dogs and fries.

Cherry, Robin and Lynn - ready to go.
After a good drive (not much traffic) we arrived at Captain Frank's and called to check on the house.  While we were eating our dogs, they called and said the house was ready.  We rushed down, got the keys and were in the house by 1:30.  That is good, because the heat index today is about 115.  It is hot.  We spent the rest of the day indoors keeping cool.
Our house - note that Uncle Sam is flying over the driveway.
The kids had a lot of fun playing games and climbing on the furniture.  This is really a comfortable house with plenty of room for all of us.

We always bring at least one "backwards" puzzle to work on during the week.  It is always tough, but one of two of us get obsessed and we always finish it.

Lynn & Jared check to make sure it is really done.
Of course we had our backwards puzzle to put together.

There is always lots of food.  Every morning it seems there is a run to the store for a newspaper and perhaps donuts or bagles.  In short, eating seems to be a significant part of our fun.  Each night one of the families cooks dinner and on Tuesday night, we all go to Jimmy's for the sea food feast - all you can eat.

Playing games.

Watching TV.

Back off, Dad.
One of the days when Mel & Lynn disappeared to go play golf, the rest went to the putt-putt golf place, they had a train and of course everyone had to take a ride.

Riding the train.

It's hot playing golf.

Sophie goes for a "hole in one".
We spent a lot of time at the beach.  During the day and most evenings.

Nicole and Jax survey the waves.
Jared brings his two jet-skis and we all have a great time riding them.  On this day, it was Katie, Jared, Robin and Mel riding them.  The others took time on others days to ride theml, but I didn't get any pictures of them.

This house has a wonderful pool and also a hot tub.  Both were well used.  The pool is especially nice when you get back from the beach and are covered with sand.  The water temp was just right to cool off.

The house has a great pool that we used often.
We took everyone to the new go-cart place in Nags Head.  It was really a lot of fun.

Jared and Heather took a ride in a bi-plane this trip.  They are always doing something fun and different.  This was very exciting and they flew over much of the outerbanks.

This is all of us at the end of our stay at the beach.  This was another great week here and we really enjoyed being with everyone.  The week was wonderful, the weather was everything you could ask for and everyone had a great time.  We look forward to next year - we wait so long and then it is over so quickly.
